Last updated: 21 September 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit www.marmaladejams.co.uk, contact us, register an interest in Marmalade JAMS, or otherwise interact with us, and how we use and protect that information.

Marmalade JAMS is a youth-focused programme designed to help young people develop practical skills and experience through music, events, entrepreneurship and mentoring.

1. Information we may collect

Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:

• your name;
• email address and telephone number;
• the name of your school, organisation or employer;
• information you provide in an enquiry or contact form;
• information relating to your interest in Marmalade JAMS programmes, events or partnerships;
• correspondence between you and us;
• technical information about your use of our website, such as device, browser and IP information;
• information collected through cookies and similar technologies; and
• where relevant to participation in a programme or event, additional information that we specifically ask you or your parent, guardian or school to provide.

We aim to collect only the information that we genuinely need.

Information about young people

Marmalade JAMS works with and is designed for young people.

If you are under 18 and want to give us personal information, we encourage you to involve a parent, guardian, teacher or another responsible adult.

We do not want young people to provide sensitive personal information through the general website contact form. If information such as health, accessibility, emergency contact or safeguarding information is required for participation in a programme or event, we will request it separately and explain why it is needed.

2. How we use your information

We may use personal information to:

• respond to enquiries;
• provide information about Marmalade JAMS;
• communicate with parents, guardians, schools, sponsors, partners and participants;
• administer programmes, events and expressions of interest;
• develop relationships with schools, supporters and potential partners;
• keep appropriate records of our communications;
• operate, maintain and improve our website;
• protect the safety and security of our users and programmes;
• meet safeguarding responsibilities;
• comply with legal or regulatory obligations; and
• send news or marketing communications where you have agreed to receive them or where the law otherwise permits us to do so.

Submitting an enquiry does not automatically subscribe you to marketing communications.

3. Our lawful basis for using information

Under UK data protection law, we need a lawful reason to process personal information. Depending on the circumstances, we may rely on:

Consent

Where you have actively agreed to a particular use of your information.

Legitimate interests

Where processing is reasonably necessary to operate and develop Marmalade JAMS, respond to enquiries, manage relationships or protect our organisation and users, provided those interests do not override your rights.

Contract

Where processing is necessary in connection with a programme, service or agreement you have asked us to provide or enter into.

Legal obligation

Where we are required to process information by law.

Vital interests or other appropriate lawful bases

In exceptional circumstances involving the protection or safety of an individual.

Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time.

4. Safeguarding and children's information

Protecting young people is important to Marmalade JAMS.

We take additional care when handling information relating to children and young people and seek to use the minimum personal information reasonably required.

If information provided to us raises a genuine safeguarding or welfare concern, we may need to share relevant information with an appropriate parent, guardian, school, safeguarding professional, emergency service, local authority or other relevant organisation. We will only do this where we consider it appropriate and lawful.

5. Who we may share information with

We do not sell personal information.

We may share information with carefully selected organisations that help us operate Marmalade JAMS, including:

• website and technology providers;
• customer relationship management and form providers;
• email and communications providers;
• professional advisers;
• event and programme delivery partners;
• schools or educational organisations where relevant;
• safeguarding or regulatory bodies where necessary; and
• public authorities where disclosure is required by law or necessary to protect an individual.

Our website and forms may use third-party technology platforms, including systems used to collect enquiries and manage communications. Where third parties process information on our behalf, we expect them to protect that information appropriately.

6. International transfers

Some technology providers may process or store information outside the United Kingdom. Where personal information is transferred internationally, we take reasonable steps to ensure appropriate protections are in place as required by UK data protection law.

7. How long we keep information

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including any legal, safeguarding, accounting or reporting requirements. The period will therefore depend on the type of information and why we hold it.

For example, a simple enquiry may be deleted when it is no longer relevant, while information relating to a programme, contractual relationship or safeguarding matter may need to be retained for longer.

We periodically review the information we hold and delete or anonymise information that is no longer required.

8. Cookies and website analytics

Our website may use cookies and similar technologies.

Some cookies are necessary for the website to function. Others may help us understand how people use the website, improve the experience or measure the effectiveness of our communications.

Where consent is required, non-essential cookies will only be used after you have been given an appropriate opportunity to make a choice. You can also control cookies through your browser settings and, where available, through the cookie preference controls on our website.

9. Your data protection rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may have the right to:

• ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
• ask us to correct inaccurate information;
• ask us to delete your information;
• ask us to restrict how we use your information;
• object to certain uses of your information;
• receive certain information in a portable format;
• withdraw consent where we rely on consent; and
• complain about how your information has been handled.

These rights apply to children as well as adults.

To exercise your rights, contact us at [email protected]. We may need to confirm your identity before responding to a request.

You also have the right to raise a concern with the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk.

10. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information from loss, misuse, unauthorised access, alteration or disclosure. However, no internet-based system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

11. External websites

Our website may contain links to other websites, including event, partner or social media websites. Those organisations operate their own privacy practices and Marmalade JAMS is not responsible for how external websites collect or use personal information. We encourage you to review their privacy information before providing personal information.

12. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Marmalade JAMS develops or if our legal or operational requirements change. The latest version will always be published on this page and the date at the top will show when it was last updated.
